In basketball, how do they determine who gets the ball after halftime?

I've always been confused, so I want to know how do they determine who gets the basketball after halftime - and is tit different from professional to amateur?

Thanks! In basketball, how do they determine who gets the ball after halftime?
It depends who wins the tip. Say your team wins the tip, the other team will start with the ball in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and you will start with the ball in the 4th.

It is universal. Now in overtime, there is another tip.
too bad that is not right... if team A wins tip and then a jump ball occurs durin the first quarter then possion arrow changes and team A would recieve the ball at the start of the 2nd quarter. this is how it is in high school and college.

In The NBA, the team who wins the tip also gets possession in the 4th period. The other team gets the ball in the 2nd and 3rd periods. In college the team that loses the tip gets the ball to start the second half. Also, the possession arrow is controlled by who won the tip also. The tip loses starts with the arrow in their favor. Each successive jump ball, the arrow changes. In the pros, they just jump it up again!!
well in pro it goes like this.

you have 2 teams. A and B

lets say team A win tipoff

1st quarter A

2nd quarter B

Half time

3rd quarter B

4th quarter AIn basketball, how do they determine who gets the ball after halftime?
very interesting question... whoever wins the tipoff should get the ball 1st and 4th quarter.... and who loses it should start at 2nd and 3rd......
It depends on who wins the tipoff. The team that loses the tipoff gets the ball at the beginning of the second and third quarters and the team that won the tipoff gets the ball at the start of the fourth quarter.
If you win the tip off, you get the ball the first and 4th quarters, if you lose it you get it 2nd and 3rd
Thr one who lost the tip in the 1st quarter
whoever didnt win the tip get the ball at the start of the 2nd and 3rd
which ever way the possion arrow is pointing gets the ball, and they alway have to take it out oppisite of the scores table.
