Basketball: How come i am quick and smooth one day and slower and choppy the next?

I am in transition of playing basketball at my school. Like one day, my quickness and flow of my game is on point and the next day i 'feel' slower and my dribble is more choppy and not as fluent. I want to be consistent by the time practice starts in a few days. Is it because I lift before or don't stretch enough? Not sure, any tips?

Consistency in your practice schedule.

You must be consistent! Do not lift weights before you practice, it will throw your shot off and you may lose your handles also. Lift weights during an off day of hoop practice, and when you lift...go with light weights and high reps. You want to get toned not bulky.



As for practice consistency.....you must establish a routine and stick to it. Practice 2 hours every other day. Working on your shooting form(stationary shooting) then working on shooting off the dribble. Work on your handles EVERY day....... ballhandling drills, dribbling drills, 2 ball dribbling, weak hand dribbling. You do that everyday for a few weeks straight and that ball will actually feel attached to your hand like a yo-yo. Be patient, put in the hours, work hard. If you take a few days off or a week off without touching the ball.....then that's where you lose your skillz.

Keep playing -- right now your conditioning isn't where it can be, so playing back-to-back days is tougher. But the more you'll play, the more your body will adjust to this, and the smoother each game will be.



Lifting before the game can hurt you; or help you. It depends on you the person. Michael Jordan lifted before every game, it helped loosen his muscles. If thats the case for you, then continue it. Don't push yourself so far in lifting that you feel drained for basketball however.Basketball: How come i am quick and smooth one day and slower and choppy the next?
it is because you didnt stretch, but anyways, know that everyone goes through this. I went through this i remember in one practice i was just awful and im a pg and i couldnt even dribble properly that day.



But now you know this so just work hard and when it happens again next time dont stress it and be relaxed and it ll come back to you
